PESHAWAR: The Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI), a non-governmental social welfare organization on Tuesday distributed non-food relief items among 220 families of the deaf children in Gulbahar area of the provincial metropolises of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The relief items including sweaters, gloves, woolen shawls and caps distributed in an event arranged by the deaf school administration at Gulbahar.
Shahid Yusaf Shahid Yusaf, Chief Executive PEI and Pakistan’s Honorary Investment Counselor at Vancouver Canada was chief guest at event where the principal of the Deaf School Farzana Saeed and other staff were also present.
She along with Shahid Yusaf and PEI Operation Manager Syed Gohar Ali distributed the relief items among the beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahid Yusaf said distribution of the relief items was the part of the PEI efforts to decrease poverty in the country.
“PEI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Social Welfare, Special Education & Women Empowerment Department Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under which the organisation will provide assistance to disabled and needy individuals and their families,” he said.
He said the PEI has also signed an MOU with 11 different universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under which the organisation would arrange sports and other recreational events for the students.
Farzana Saeed appreciated the efforts being made by the organisation for the help of the poor, particularly disabled and deaf students.
